2014 Jeep Wrangler

New For 2014

The 2014 Jeep Wrangler doesn't see many changes. Fans of the Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition will be interested in the new Rubicon X, which enjoys many of the anniversary-edition upgrades (including wider rock rails, a winch-ready bumper, and plenty of standard features) at a lower cost. A trail kit is now available for all Wranglers and includes two D-rings, a tow strap, gloves, and a custom bag to keep it all together. The Wrangler Freedom Edition is based on the Sport, and Jeep donates $250 from each sale to the USO.

Vehicle Summary

The Jeep Wrangler is the entire Jeep brand to many people. With a history dating back to World War II, everyone seems to have a story about a Wrangler or a CJ of some variety. The Wrangler name debuted in 1986 and brought square headlights to the seven-slot grille. Circular headlights were introduced with the 1997 Wrangler and visually linked the vehicle with the CJ models that established the Jeep brand. Although the Wrangler was once among the simplest vehicles on the market, it has grown in size and complexity over the years. Now it's possible to get heated leather seats and a navigation system in a Wrangler. That said, the model is true to its heritage and is available only as a four-by-four (which wasn't always the case). Everyone at Jeep understands the importance of the Wrangler, and nobody wants to risk messing up the brand's most iconic model.

Overview

The 2014 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited are almost unchanged. The Wrangler saw numerous upgrades for 2013, so it's no surprise that the biggest changes this year are a few special-edition packages.

Jeep now offers the Rubicon X model, which is the most capable Wrangler trim level for 2014. Upgrades over a standard Wrangler Rubicon include 255/75R-17 mud tires, satin black wheels, steel bumpers, a power-dome hood, and a special gauge cluster. No other manufacturer boasts that its products can tackle the Rubicon Trail. Jeep has more than one model named after it.

The 2014 Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition takes a Sport and adds "Oscar Mike" fender badges, a gray grille, silver wheels, body-color fender flares, rock rails with black taillamp guards, "Oscar Mike" decals on the hood, quarter panels, and seats, and silver accent stitching on the interior. Jeep donates $250 from the sale of each Freedom Edition Wrangler to the USO as a part of the Jeep Operation Safe Return Initiative.

Every 2014 Jeep Wrangler uses the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine and all-wheel drive. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission and two- or four-door body configurations. As always, there is a choice between hard and soft tops and either is removable, so you can buy a soft top and add a hard top later, or vice versa. The Wrangler is one of the most customized vehicles on the road, so it's not likely you'll ever see two that look exactly the same.

Automotive enthusiasts are simple creatures. We want power, and lots of it, and we’re here to help you find it in its most affordable form(s). Power doesn’t always mean outright speed though, and big horsepower numbers can show up in unexpected places. For less than $30,000, the best dollars-per-horsepower ratio goes to a bizarre mix of cars, crossovers, and trucks, both fast and slow. What’s clear is that if you want the most ponies for the fewest Benjamins, buy American. (Note: All prices include destination fees.)

Summary
Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles manufactured March 20, 2014, to April 22, 2014, and 2014 Jeep Wrangler vehicles manufactured March 21, 2014, to April 22, 2014. Due to a software error, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may fail to learn the locations of the individual sensors while the vehicle is being driven. As a result, the low tire pressure warning light will illuminate, despite the the tire pressures being within specification. Should one of the tires lose air pressure, the driver would not be notified of the change in air pressure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."
Consequences
If the TPMS light illuminates because the sensors cannot be located, it could mask an actual low tire pressure condition, possibly resulting in tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Chrysler has notified owners, and dealers will reprogram the TPMS module, free of charge. The recall began on October 23, 2014. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P63.
