2015 hyundai veloster Reviews and News

2015 Hyundai Veloster
2015 Hyundai Veloster

New for 2015

The Hyundai Veloster remains largely unchanged for the 2015 model year.

Vehicle Overview

The Veloster is a three-door hatchback (two doors on the passenger side and one longer door on the driver's side) that fits above the Accent and below the Genesis Coupe in Hyundai's lineup.

Summary

The asymmetrical 2015 Hyundai Veloster is powered by a 1.6-liter I-4 that makes 138 hp and 123 lb-ft of torque and gets paired to a six-speed manual, but can be optioned with a dual-clutch six-speed automatic. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 26/35 mpg city/highway with the manual, and 27/36 mpg with the automatic. The turbocharged models are powered by a 201-hp 1.6-liter I-4 mill that turns out 195 lb-ft of torque, and is good for an EPA-estimated 24/33 mpg with the manual, and 24/31 with the automatic.
The Veloster R-Spec offers a number of enthusiast-oriented features: unique suspension tuning, close ratio short-throw six-speed with unique shift knob, red exterior accents, red leatherette bolster with red/black cloth inserts, and R-Spec logos.
The 2015 Hyundai Veloster received a five star overall safety rating from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars), and in IIHS testing received three ratings of good, one of acceptable for the side crash category, and one of marginal in the new – and more difficult – small front overlap test; the highest possible rating is good.

What We Think

The Hyundai Veloster is an interesting vehicle. Staff opinion has been split for a while, as the styling excited or repulsed, and the performance underwhelmed or impressed. The suspension tuning was generally complimented, but a lack of well-developed damping causes the Veloster to be a handful over mid-turn bumps or rough roads. Performance on the non-turbo is underwhelming, and on the turbo models is merely adequate. The turbocharged engine is a twin-scroll design, but it's been tuned for economical driving rather than more sport. The dual-clutch was likewise disliked by some, but complimented by others: one editor called it better than Ford's but not quite as good as Volkswagen's. Where there was less division was the bargain of an interior that buyers get for less than twenty large: 7-inch infotainment screen, 450-watt 8-speaker sound system, Bluetooth hands-free, USB inputs, heated leather seats, and push-button ignition are all standard on the car. The most worthwhile optional equipment is the set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, which greatly improve the handling and feedback of the car. In a three-car Tiny Funky Turbo comparison a 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo beat a 2012 Nissan Juke and 2012 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo.
"The Veloster is a good compromise between design, usability, and quirkiness … In addition to looking good, it offers huge value, and feels almost fully loaded. The only downside is ride quality, but the car drives well enough to satisfy most consumers.
