2006 Honda Civic Hybrid Front
A California judge sided with Honda in overturning a February 1 court decision over the fuel economy of the 2006 Honda Civic hybrid. In the earlier decision, owner Heather Peters was awarded $9867 in small claims court after arguing that Honda made false claims about the fuel economy of the Civic hybrid.

It all started in January of this year with Heather Peters rejecting Honda’s class-action settlement to give Civic owners disgruntled over poor fuel economy $100-200 and a rebate on the purchase of a new Honda. Little did either of them know it would go as far as it has. In the latest chapter, hearings began this week with Honda appealing a small-claims court award of almost $10,000 to Peters.

Grease-covered hot-rodders in the 1950s did it. Gearheads of the '60s and '70s did it. And, more recently, the tuner culture did it. But the days of the do-it-yourself upgrade now may be behind those of us burdened by the crush of everyday responsibility. Folks with a new family, for example. We barely have time to toast a bagel in the morning, much less hop up our ride. What we need is a car for those of us whose inner speed demons won't shut up, people with real-world salaries and the need to carry more than one passenger.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR
Summary
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HOUSING USES AN O-RING SEAL TO PREVENT LEAKAGE TO OR FROM THE WHEEL BEARING. IF ASSEMBLED IMPROPERLY, THE O-RING MAY NOT SEAL PROPERLY ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE WHEEL BEARING AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BEARING, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WHERE USE OF ROAD SALT IS PREVALENT. IF THE DRIVER CONTINUES TO DRIVE WITH THIS CONDITION IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE WHEEL BEARING TO BECOME LOOSE, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE BEARING TO FAIL.
Consequences
THIS COULD CAUSE A WHEEL TO FALL OFF OF THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR ABS SENSORS AND WHEEL BEARINGS FOR DAMAGED PARTS AND REPLACE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
Summary
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, CERTAIN PARTS OF THE INTEGRATED MOTOR ASSIST (IMA) SYSTEM ARE LOCATED UNDER A METAL COVER BEHIND THE REAR SEAT-BACK. THE RUBBER CAP MAY GET PINCHED, EXPOSING THE ELECTRICAL TERMINAL.
Consequences
THE TERMINAL MAY COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE METAL COVER, WHICH CAN RESULT IN AN ELECTRICAL SHORT THAT MAY BLOW THE IMA FUSE. A BLOWN FUSE WILL CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A PLASTIC COVER ATTACHED TO A METAL BRACKET OVER THE RUBBER CAP. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 26, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.
