One can only hope that one, if not all, of the US automakers will take advantage of this engine technology.  For the first time we really have a chance to produce and engine that can provide the go without the slow and that is actually fuel-efficient to boot.  It would appear that those hankerin' and wailin' and gnashin' their teeth about  performance suffering with new FE standards can breathe a little easier now.

This sounds good in theory. But I would like to know for sure if the engine won't blow if it is reaching diesel compression rates. That's why diesels are built stronger and cost more. Also, if you approach diesel fuel economy then burn a small amount of ethanol only to loose 10 to 15 percent still seems like a lot to give up. A diesel running 100 percent Bio-Diesel looses nothing and no modification is needed to run it or at least that was the case till they choked them off with all the smog junk.

Just an update. I went to Ricardo's website. There is a graph that they have on it. The ebdi engine doesn't do well on E85 as discribe in this article, and only slightly better on E40. On straight gasoline it gets up there close to diesel performance. So my money is still on bio-diesel. Hope I read their graph right, if I did then were is the benifit if this engine doesn't get better milage on E85. Just a waste of time then.
