2014 Ford Mustang
2014 Ford Mustang

New For 2014

All 2014 Ford Mustang models receive new graphics for the instrument cluster. High-performance white and red candy metallic paints replace oxford white and ruby red metallic. New appearance packages for base V-6 and GT models add black-painted mirrors, a trunk spoiler, quarter-window louvers, and wheels (eighteens on the V-6, nineteens on the GT). The Boss 302, our favorite version of the current Ford Mustang, has been discontinued after a two-year run.

Vehicle Summary

The Ford Mustang has been an icon since it launched nearly fifty years ago at the 1964 New York World's Fair. Recognized worldwide, the Mustang has starred in over 3000 movies and TV shows. The 2014 Ford Mustang can be had as a coupe or a softtop convertible (one of the most affordable four-seat convertibles on sale today). A huge part of the Mustang's appeal is its performance -- it can be had with a big V-8 engine that is ready for burnouts and racing. Today, the 2014 Ford Mustang has a flavor for everyone: relaxed cruiser, drag strip warrior, back-roads enthusiast. That's part of what makes it one of our favorite muscle cars. Retro styling pays tribute to Mustangs past, but modern powertrains and interior technology keeps the car planted in the twenty-first century. An all-new Mustang is scheduled to debut in early 2014 with significant changes.

After several updates for 2013, the 2014 Ford Mustang receives only slight equipment changes. Last year's face lift brought a new grille, more angled headlights, LED taillights, a gloss-black trunklid panel, and standard HID headlights. Despite the updates, the 2014 Ford Mustang retains its retro shape and classic proportions, with a long and wide hood leading into a small coupe greenhouse. The convertible looks good with its power fabric roof raised or lower, but both body styles suffer from fairly cramped back seats and only mediocre trunk space. A long list of styling add-ons allows shoppers to customize the car to their hearts' desire. It's even possible to add performance parts, like stronger Brembo brakes and Recaro bucket seats, to any version of the Mustang.

The most affordable of the two engine choices is a 3.7-liter V-6 that pumps out 305 hp and can return as much as 31 mpg on the highway. Although the V-6 is plenty fast, even for enthusiasts, we find its drab exhaust note and flat power delivery a letdown compared with the available V-8. Indeed, the 420-hp, 5.0-liter V-8 in GT models is absolutely worth the extra money (and extra fuel). It is willing and responsive, immensely powerful, and sounds like a genuine muscle car. Both the slick-shifting manual transmission and the smooth automatic have six forward speeds.

Because it is an older platform, the 2014 Ford Mustang doesn't offer as many safety and comfort features as other Ford products. The MyFord Touch infotainment system is absent, for instance, although a basic navigation system is available. Other options include a glass roof, a backup camera, colored ambient lighting, and a loud Shaker sound system. The 2013 update also brought Track Apps, a function in the instrument cluster that allows drivers to monitor engine parameters and measure performance statistics like G-force and 0-to-60-mph sprints.

You'll like:

  • Powerful V-8
  • Precise, rewarding manual transmission
  • Lots of optional performance upgrades

You won't like:

  • Dated interior
  • V-6 sounds dull
  • No more Boss 302

Automotive enthusiasts are simple creatures. We want power, and lots of it, and we’re here to help you find it in its most affordable form(s). Power doesn’t always mean outright speed though, and big horsepower numbers can show up in unexpected places. For less than $30,000, the best dollars-per-horsepower ratio goes to a bizarre mix of cars, crossovers, and trucks, both fast and slow. What’s clear is that if you want the most ponies for the fewest Benjamins, buy American. (Note: All prices include destination fees.)

After all the rumors and spy shots, we finally know what the 2015 Ford Mustang will look like. Some love it, some hate it, and some are slowly warming up to the combination of contemporary and retro styling details. But however you feel about the new model, there's no denying that being in production for 50 consecutive years is a big achievement. As part of the festivities surrounding the introduction of the 2015 model, Ford invited the first retail customer of the 1964 ½ model, Gail Wise, to share her story of how she bought her Mustang convertible, two days before the Mustang's official on-sale date.

Over the course of its 49-year production run, the Ford Mustang has been offered in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and trims, and with an equally varied list of drivetrains. Despite that never-ending flux, one characteristic remained constant: the Ford Mustang was always a rear-wheel drive car.

There’s seemingly no end to the rumor mill surrounding the upcoming launch of the 2015 Ford Mustang, but a new whisper broke late yesterday: Ford might revive the Mach 1 name for use on the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang.

The upcoming 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang is giving Mustang enthusiasts an opportunity to glance into the depths of Ford’s Mustang archives. A few weeks ago, we showed you some Ford Mustang designs that never made it to the street, and now Ford is showing more images of some Fox-body Mustang concepts that offer similarly diverse design influences, even including a wood-paneled Mustang wagon design study.
