2015 Ford Fusion
2015 Ford Fusion

New for 2015

The Fusion enters 2015 with a number of changes to trim levels and equipment availability: a rearview camera is now standard on all models, inflatable rear belts are now available on all Hybrid trims, the SE now gets a six-way power front passenger seat, and the Titanium gets 10-way adjustable front seats. The Terracotta appearance package includes leather-trimmed seats, door trim inserts, and a unique 18-inch alloy wheel.

Vehicle Overview

The Fusion is Ford’s midsize sedan with a model for most buyers, from the nicely appointed Titanium to the plug-in Energi. The Fusion fits above the Focus and below the Taurus in Ford’s lineup.

The 2015 Ford Fusion discontinues the manual-transmission 1.6-liter EcoBoost I-4 option from last year, but boasts five drivetrain options for 2015. Three engines power the volume Fusion, and two hybrid powertrains satisfy those who are more fuel-efficiency conscious. The 1.5-liter EcoBoost I-4 can be equipped with an engine stop-start system to increase fuel efficiency, and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 on the Titanium trim level can optionally be paired with all-wheel drive. All non-hybrid models get the same six-speed automatic, and the hybrids get a CVT.

What We Think

The Ford Fusion competed in a midsize sedan comparison in 2013, where it beat out the Hyundai Sonata but lost to the Mazda6.
The 2013 Fusion is a great car if you're looking for a driving enthusiast's interpretation of a midsize sedan's mission, yet some compromises in utility are also required as a result … Headroom is good, but the interior architecture makes rear passengers feel like they're in the back seat of an Audi TT.
While we have a preference for sporty driving, it took more than that to win the competition. While the Ford wowed us with its athletic demeanor, it was faulted for some build quality issues (panel gaps, the feel of trunk and door closures), and too much of a focus on form over function. It was the details that allowed the Mazda to snatch victory from the Ford.
In an AWD midsize sedan battle the Fusion did much better, beating out its only competitor, the Subaru Legacy.
A midsize sedan may not have to reach you on an emotional level, but we like it when it does.

Ford Sync 3 Apps
Ford has announced the next generation of its touchscreen infotainment systems, called Sync 3 -- and ditching the MyFord Touch name. Highlights of Ford Sync 3 include more conversational voice recognition and a seamless integration of AppLink for smartphones.
Ford Mondeo Pedestrian Detection 2
Ford’s latest active safety feature is a new pre-collision warning system that can detect pedestrians. The system is one of the first of its kind among mainstream automakers, as Subaru’s EyeSight system is the only other non-luxury brand to offer this kind of technology.

Recall Date
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured February 3, 2012, to March 20, 2015, and 2015 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured February 26, 2015, to February 28, 2015, and originally sold, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. In the affected vehicles, snow or water containing road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.
If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist. Loss of power steering assist would require a higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds, which may increase the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will apply sealer and replace the steering gear motor bolts as required. If one or more of the steering gear motor attachment bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on June 24, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S14.

Recall Date
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 27, 2013, to October 31, 2014, 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid vehicles manufactured February 24, 2014, to October 31, 2014, and 2015 Ford Fusion Energi vehicles manufactured July 14, 2014, to October 31, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the key may be able to be removed even while the transmission is not in Park. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
If the key can be removed despite that the transmission is not in Park, a driver may think the vehicle is safety parked, when it is not, increasing the risk of a vehicle rollaway that could cause the vehicle to strike and injure the driver, other vehicle occupants, or bystanders.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles, free of charge. The recall began on December 15, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14C11.
