2015 Ford F-450
2015 Ford F-450

New for 2015

The Ford F-450 Super Duty gets more power from its turbodiesel V-8, chassis revisions, more towing capacity, and a higher GCWR for 2015.

Vehicle Overview

The Ford F-450 is the heaviest duty non-commercial grade pickup truck available, and is the most capable model in the automaker’s lineup. The F-450 is available only as a crew cab, and is equipped exclusively with the diesel powerplant, four-wheel drive, and dual-rear wheels. The F-450 sits at the top of the Ford Super Duty lineup, above the F-350.

The 2015 Ford F-450 Super Duty is a crew-cab, four-wheel drive, long-bed pickup truck with dual rear-wheels and the segment leading 6.7-liter turbodiesel V-8 that produces 440 hp and 860 lb-ft of torque paired with a six-speed automatic. Efficiency hasn’t been rated by the EPA, but we saw 22 mpg in a 2011 Driven review with a diesel-powered F-350. Maximum towing capacity is 19,000 pounds for a conventional trailer (matching the F-350), but fifth wheel/gooseneck trailer maximum is a staggering 31,200 pounds, 4,500 pounds more than a comparable F-350. The F-450 also boasts a GCWR (gross combined weight rating) of 40,000 pounds, but a payload of only 5,450 pounds. The Ford F-450 Super Duty is for buyers who need to haul the absolute heaviest fifth-wheel trailer in any conditions, such as the biggest toy trailers, equestrian trailers, and work sites just shy of commercial trucks.

The 2013 Texas State Fair isn't just an opportunity to sample deep-fried beer or ogle a newly reconstructed Big Tex: it's also the venue Ford chose to introduce its updated 2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup line. As Ford updated its heavy-duty pickup range for the 2014 model year, the latest Super Duty is hardly a complete re-invention, but it does incorporate a few key updates to help the 2015 F-250, 2015 F-350, and 2015 F-450 pickups fend off competitors from Chevrolet, GMC, and Ram Trucks.
