New for 2015

The Ford F-350 Super Duty sees chassis revisions and more power from the 6.7-liter turbodiesel V-8, which results in an increased towing capacity and higher gross combination weight rating.

Vehicle Overview

The Ford F-350 is a full-size heavy duty truck that comes with a gasoline or diesel engine, and is available in trims from the sufficient XL to the luxurious Platinum. The F-350 is available with three cab styles, and is the heaviest truck available in a standard cab. The F-350 sits above the F-250 and below the F-450 in capability and price in the Ford truck lineup.

Summary

The 2015 Ford F-350 Super Duty has two available engines, a gasoline and a diesel powerplant, and pairs both with a six-speed automatic that drives the rear wheels, but can be paired with a four-wheel-drive system. The gasoline-fed 6.2-liter V-8 produces 385 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque in models less than 10,000 pounds GVWR, but 316 hp and 397 lb-ft of torque in models over 10,000 pounds GVWR. The EPA doesn’t rate heavy duty truck, so fuel economy numbers are not available, but expect the turbodiesel V-8 to be more efficient. That 6.7-liter turbodiesel V-8 cranks out a segment-leading 440 hp and 860 lb-ft of torque, making it the obvious choice for the most demanding applications. Maximum towing capacity is 19,000 pounds with a conventional hitch, and 26,700 pounds with a fifth wheel/gooseneck hitch, both with the turbodiesel. The gross combined weight rating (GCWR) increases to 35,000 pounds for 4WD Crew Cab models equipped with the diesel, and maximum payload increases to 7,260 pounds.
The Ford F-350 has not been crash tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS.

What We Think

The Ford F-Series Super Duty line comprises the most capable trucks in the segment, and in 2011 we sampled an F-350 King Ranch (more power and chassis upgrades added capability for 2015, but the truck is otherwise the same). “The truck itself feels quite stable on the road, especially when you consider how tall the 4x4s stands and how much it weighs (ours tipped the scales at almost 3.5 tons)," we wrote. "Much of the truck’s new-found responsiveness has to do with a new, heavier duty steering box, weighing and sizing about double the one it replaced. Although the suspension and frame are slightly modified, the fine-tuning has made a noticeable improvement in ride quality, especially when driving empty.”
Capability was impressive when the revised Super Duty was launched in 2011, and with the improvement for 2015 it has made an already great truck even better. If you simply need to haul the most, and maybe even want to do it in unmatched comfort, Ford has a truck for you.

2015 Ford F Series King Ranch Line Up
Now in its 15th year of partnership with the Texas King Ranch, Ford revealed three new King Ranch edition models for the 2015 model year. Texas state photographer Wyman Meinzer helped celebrate the occasion with an honorary photo shoot, depicting King Ranch versions of the 2015 Ford F-150, 2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty, and 2015 Ford Expedition at their eponymous Texas locale.

The 2013 Texas State Fair isn't just an opportunity to sample deep-fried beer or ogle a newly reconstructed Big Tex: it's also the venue Ford chose to introduce its updated 2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup line. As Ford updated its heavy-duty pickup range for the 2014 model year, the latest Super Duty is hardly a complete re-invention, but it does incorporate a few key updates to help the 2015 F-250, 2015 F-350, and 2015 F-450 pickups fend off competitors from Chevrolet, GMC, and Ram Trucks.
