Watch B.J. Baldwin Jump a Nissan GT-R With A Trophy Truck

If you ever watched one of Ken Block’s Gymkhana videos and thought “this is great, but it needs more power, dirt, jumps, and a Nissan GT-R,” then you might like this new Recoil clip starring Trophy Truck driver B.J. Baldwin.

Like Block, Baldwin is sponsored by Monster Energy, and seems just as willing to flaunt his racing skills and hardware in amusing viral video clips. This video opens with a Nissan GT-R carving up some winding roads – until, that is, the well-dressed driver runs out of fuel in the Mojave Desert. While she ponders her situation, Baldwin (literally) flies by, before circling back, tossing her a racing suit, and giving her a lift.

The Nissan GT-R might be a lustworthy performance machine, but so too is Baldwin’s truck. Although it bears a passing resemblance to a Chevrolet Silverado, its entire structure is purpose-built for racing. A 458 cubic-inch V-8, derived from a small-block Chevy, cranks out 800 hp and 690 lb-ft of torque, and sends that power to the rear wheels. That’s enough power to send the truck through a standing quarter-mile in 12.1 seconds at 112 mph, and hit a top speed of 145 mph. Those figures are even more impressive when you consider Baldwin’s machine tips the scales at 6390 pounds.

King shocks and an independent A-arm front suspension provides nearly 26 inches of suspension travel up front, while a solid rear axle and three-link suspension yields an insane 34 inches of compression out back – critical, it seems, for landing Godzilla-clearing jumps without a hitch.

We find it slightly ironic that the GT-R’s driver allegedly runs out of fuel before the truck, considering Baldwin’s site says the machine returns 3.1 mpg, meaning it has a range of 207 miles despite a 67-gallon fuel tank. But hey, reality has no place in videos like this, so sit back, relax, enjoy, and remember – don’t try this at home, kids.
