Watch A Scion FR-S, VW GTI Play on Track with E30 M3

BMW E30 M3 Scion FR S And VW GTI
The 2013 Volkswagen GTI and the Scion FR-S are both relatively cheap, fun four-cylinder options, but each provides a different experience behind the wheel. To find out which car is “better,” Motor Trend associate editor joined European Car editor-in-chief Greg Emmerson to settle the score on track.
But wait, there’s more. The duo commissions a 1989 BMW E30 M3, an iconic classic used to serve as a benchmark for the comparison. First up is the GTI and its 2.0-liter turbo-four sending 200 hp to the front wheels. Febbo and Emmerson don’t see eye to eye regarding GTI’s behavior around the track, but both agree that the GTI is fast in a straight line and is a great everyday car.
Next is the rear-drive Scion with its 200-hp 2.0-liter boxer-four. Emmerson is quick to say he’d rather consume human waste than own the FR-S and Febbo tries to win him over by demonstrating the coupe’s finesse around the Streets of Willow racetrack.  Finally, the duo hops into the M3 where they decide a winner, taking into consideration a number of factors include curb weight, practicality, and lap times. Find out which car they picked in the video below.
