VW Drops New Midsize Sedan Sketches on Facebook After Passat's Paris Reveal

Today's Paris Motor Show debut of the 2011 Passat sedan may have left North American VW fans feeling a little neglected, as the next-gen midsizer won't be making its way to U.S. soil. Not to fear though, VW has just posted sketches of its U.S.-bound New Midsize Sedan on its Facebook account to tide us over.

We've been hearing about the NMS for years now, and VW's intent to position the new midsizer to take a bigger bite out of the U.S. market, stealing sales away from the venerable Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Compared to the now Euro-only Passat sedan, the NMS is expected to be larger with more interior room and a more competitive price when it comes to market. These sketches, however, show a vehicle that looks strikingly similar to the just-debuted Passat leading us to believe that despite larger dimensions, the NMS' overall appearance may remain quite similar to its European cousin.

Power options for the 2011 Passat include 1.4-, 1.8-, and 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 units, though only the 2.0-liter version will likely find a home in the NMS. We'd expect the Passat's range-topping 300-horsepower 3.0-liter V-6 to serve as the NMS' high-end option.

It's possible we could see the Volkwagen NMS in concept form just in time for the Detroit Auto Show in early 2011, but until we have official word from VW, anything's possible.
