VW Chairman wants to purchase motorcycle manufacturer

Ferdinand Piech, the chairman of Volkswagen, has expressed regrets that the German automaker did not purchase the legendary Italian motorcycle enterprise, Ducati, when it was experiencing financial woes and was for sale in 1985. "I would still like a small, valuable motorcycle manufacturer," says the Ducati-riding 71-year-old chairman.

It's a wonder what types of motorcycle designs VW could produce, given the close relationship that Volkswagen has with Porsche. Porsche helped design Harley-Davidson's Revolution engine, which first appeared in the V-Rod. Piech apparently rides a 180 hp Ducati to get his kicks.
