Volvo Taps Nautical Inspiration for Ocean Race Edition Wagons and Crossovers

#Volvo, #V60

The Volvo Ocean Race has once again led the Swedish automaker to release a bunch of Ocean Race edition wagons and crossovers.

This will be the fourth time in history that Volvo has released their Ocean Race Editions, and they consist of the V60, V70, XC60, and XC70. These four models will be available on a global scale but are scheduled to hit dealers in countries that partake in the Volvo Ocean Race (United States is included). Availability will depend on the individual markets, though Volvo foresees Italy, Germany, Great Britain, and Sweden to possess the greatest interest. The early sales target for the Ocean Race line is 7500 cars worldwide.

Volvo claims the Ocean Race Editions are "inspired by the sea," and are painted either Volvo Ocean Blue II or Electric Silver. Special aluminum wheels and unique chrome bits and Ocean Race badges adorn the exterior.

Inside, the leather is said to draw inspiration from boat sails, and they're colored either off-black or soft beige. The floor mats and tread plates are also supposed to have some nautical cues. One thing's for certain with these Volvos: There will be constant reminders of the Ocean Race all the time. The wagons and crossovers will be available later this June.

This year's Volvo Ocean Race starts October 29 in Alicante, Spain. To get an idea of the grueling nature of the event, the race eventually finishes July 7, 2012 in Galway, Ireland, after circling the globe.
