Volvo S60 Polestar Adds Goodies for Australia

#Volvo, #S60

Australia: the land down under with the Great Barrier Reef, kangaroos, and high-performance Volvos. Wait, what? Australian buyers will now have the choice of a Polestar-fettled S60 sedan inspired by the audacious S60 Polestar Concept.

Sadly, the Australian-market car will not have 508 hp like the concept, but will carry over numerous modifications from the Polestar-tuned show car. Using the 2013 Volvo S60 T6 AWD R-Design that we get here as a starting point, the Swedish racing outfit upped power by 25 hp and at least 15 lb-ft of torque to 350 hp and 369-plus lb-ft. To achieve the increased numbers, there is a new Borg Warner turbocharger, a 2.5-inch stainless full-flow exhaust system with 3.5-inch tail pipes, a new intercooler, and revised ECU programming. The additional boost means that the S60 Polestar can make the run from 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds and onto a 155-mph electronically limited top speed.

Polestar has also tweaked the chassis to make the S60 a better handler. Enhancements include upgraded springs, front and rear stabilizers, rear tie blades, rear toe link arms, and suspension top mounts; Öhlins two-way dampers that are 80-percent stiffer than stock; and a carbon-fiber-enforced strut brace. There are also new bespoke 19-inch Polestar rims that mimic the concept's wheels, which are shod in 235/40R19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber. The brakes have also been upgraded to ventilated discs, with rotors measuring 13.2 inches in front and 11.9 inches out back. Front discs are now grabbed by Jurid 958 performance pads, while the rears have HP2000 Brembo performance pads. Polestar also upgraded the six-speed automatic transmission – it now has modified programming for faster shifts, launch control, and to send more torque rearward.

Aesthetic changes are minimal compared with the R-Design car. Aside from the aforementioned wheels, there are also black mirror caps, a new rear diffuser, and a plethora of Polestar badges inside and out.

Volvo has yet to announce pricing for the S60 Polestar, but the first cars should begin delivery in June. Unluckily, the automaker told us that it currently has no plans to bring the S60 Polestar to the U.S.
