Volkswagen has delivered the first 2012 Passat to a customer in San Jose, California. To celebrate the occasion, the lucky buyer will receive a tour of the Passat factory, VW gear, and Shell gift cards.
San Jose resident Matt Duchesne bought a 2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI in black. He and a guest will take a special tour of the Chattanooga, Tennessee plant that builds the Passat this November. As of September 8, the plant has built 10,000 new Passats.
In addition, Volkswagen will give Duchesne a trunk full of Volkswagen merchandise and a $500 gift card to Shell fuel stations. We estimate that’s enough to fill the tank of Duchesne’s Passat with diesel fuel about seven times.
The 2012 Volkswagen Passat starts at $20,765 (including destination) with a 2.5-liter inline-five engine, $26,765 with the 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine, or $29,765 with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine. The car also was recently named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
