Video: 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Horsepower, Top Speed Tested

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 on dyno

For months, GM kept mum on the official horsepower and torque ratings for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. The automaker has since revealed official figures of 455 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, or 460 hp and 465 lb-ft with the Z51 Performance package. On this episode of The J Turn, host Jessi Lang puts those numbers to the test on the dyno.

Lang first gets introduced to the dynamometers by K&N's performance kit manager Bert Heck, who explains the different uses of each machine. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette is then pulled up on the dyno for its run. After two consistent pulls, the Corvette averages 402 peak hp and reveals a very flat torque curve. Once you factor in drivetrain losses, the Corvette's numbers are consistent with GM's official ratings. Lang then hops in the car for a top speed run on the rollers, and the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette shows 192 mph on its speedometer before the limiter kicks in.

K&N doesn't waste the opportunity to test a prototype filter on one of the newest cars on the market. With the drop-in performance filter in place, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette does another dyno pull and shows some surprising gains. Afterward, Lang takes a tour of the factory to see how K&N air filters are made and see the company's manufacturing process from start to finish. See the dyno run for yourself below.
