How fast can the 2014 Audi RS 7 attack Germany's autobahn? Carlos Lago from Motor Trend heads to Germany to find out. While there, Lago also checks out the factory that builds the high-performance four-door hatchback.
At Quattro GmBH, Lago checks out the RS 7's drivetrain, and sees the engine run on an engine dynamometer. While the RS 7 is powered by a version of the automaker's twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, in this application the boosted engine makes 560 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque - 40 hp and 35 lb-ft more than the same engine in the Audi S8 sedan. The RS 7 even makes 10 hp and 118 lb-ft more than the 5.2-liter V-10 in the mid-engine R8 V10 Plus. An eight-speed automatic and Audi's all-wheel-drive system routes power to all four wheels. Available carbon fiber brakes slow down the 4500-pound four-door hatchback.
On the street, Lago is impressed with engine's power reserve and exhaust note. Despite the RS 7's use of aluminum and other lightweight materials, the car feels hefty on the street. Lago notes the RS 7 is happier on the long straights than on curving back roads.
Check out the video below to get Lago's final impressions of the 560-hp Audi RS 7 and see how fast he goes on the unrestricted autobahn.
