Video: 2013 SRT Viper Put Through Its Paces

While testing cars sounds like it's all fun and games, there's much more to it than that. The J-Turn's host Jessi Lang shows just what goes on at a test day as she shadows the Motor Trend testing crew at the track.

Lang joins testing director Kim Reynolds as he prepares the 2013 SRT Viper for the first part of the MT testing regimen, the figure eight. Reynolds tells Jessi this test requires the most instrumentation, as he carefully straps ride height sensors onto the Viper, and readies a special GPS system that measures the speed of the car. Reynolds begins to drive around the third-of-a-mile-long course with Lang in the passenger seat, and starts to push the Viper hard into the corners. While it's clear Lang is having a great time, Reynolds also lets us know what he thinks of the Viper's performance.

Next up is acceleration testing, headed by road test editor Scott Mortara, who stresses that if you don't get the launch right, the rest of the run won't matter. That means Mortara needs to have it down to a science -- and he certainly does. Mortara and Lang launch the Viper a few times to try and find that sweet spot, and he even lets Jessi jump behind the wheel for a trial.

After all that hard work, Mortara says it's time for a little fun in the Viper. Find out what he means by watching the newest episode of The J-Turn in the video below.
