NASCAR just got a little more interesting. Fresh from his separation from Subaru, rally champion Travis Pastrana announced he'll join the Nationwide Series' driver lineup under a new team banner: Pastrana-Waltrip Racing.
No.199 (or 00 as the video shows) is scheduled to compete in seven NASCAR Nationwide races in 2011 and 20 races the following year. Michael Waltrip's existing shop in Cornelius, North Carolina will build the team's Toyotas.
Both Waltrip and Pastrana are hoping the new venture will attraction a new generation of NASCAR fans.
"This is an opportunity to showcase our company and our sport to a new generation of young fans," Waltrip said in a press release. "We're also looking for that next big star. Travis already is one and action sports is full of talented athletes. Having Travis as a part of our program adds another great dimension to our team and NASCAR."
Pastrana is a proven gear head and championship racer. How do you think he'll fare?
