Toyota unveils FT-86 G Sports Concept

Before the highly anticipated Toyota-Subaru love child even has a chance to be launched, it’s been given a conceptual special edition. Toyota unveiled a tuned version of its forthcoming FT-86 sports coupe, called the “G Sports,” earlier today at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

The FT-86 G Sports features styling even more aggressive than what we’ve seen on the original. A fully functioning scoop in the front fascia feeds the intercooler plenty of air. The hood has been sprayed in flat black and features venting up top. Toyota further accentuated the body lines on the side of the coupe, giving the concept a wide-body look. The rear fascia has been reworked to allow better aerodynamics, while the dual exhaust tips have been relocated towards the center of the car. A monster-size spoiler has also been bolted to the rear decklid.

The production FT-86 -- sans all the G-Sports equipment -- is rumored to be priced in the $30,000 range, giving Toyota a sports car after long last. If you can’t wait a few years to drive the FT-86, you may want to get your hands on a copy of Gran Turismo 5 (whenever it does launch), as Toyota and Polyphony Digital have already digitized the car and placed it in the game.
