The Toyota Camry continues its winning streak in the midsize segment with 7973 units sold more than the second-place Honda Accord. Last year, the Camry outsold the Accord by about 73,000 units. Toyota sold 31,987 units last month compared to the Accord’s 23,924 units sold.
While the Nissan Altima finished last year in third place, January 2013 sales placed it behind the Ford Fusion by 935 units. The Chevrolet Malibu climbed to fifth place last month, with 15,823 units sold. The Malibu, Altima, and Fusion were redesigned for the 2013 model year. Sixth and seventh place went to the Hyundai Sonata (13,247), outselling the Kia Optima (11,252).
The Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 200 twins finished in eighth and tenth place, respectively. The Volkswagen Passat held its ninth-place spot, with 8856 units sold – an improvement of 40.2 percent from January 2012. Rounding out the group are the Subaru Legacy at 3184 units and Mazda6 at 2147 units, placing 11th and 12th, respectively. Mazda6 sales were down 56.4 percent compared to last year. Expect sales of the Zoom-Zoom model to pick up as the all-new 2014 Mazda6 began arriving on dealer lots last month.
