Time For A Nip/Tuck: Facelifted Kia Sorento Caught Testing

The 2012 Kia Sorento isn't exactly a bad-looking vehicle, but as the brand's design language quickly evolves under the watchful eye of head designer Peter Scrhreyer, the 2012 Sorento -- which debuted only two model years ago -- is starting to feel a little out of date. As such, it's no surprise to see Kia engineers are already out testing what appears to be a facelifted Sorento out in the wild.

Our colleagues over at Motor Trend snapped a Kia Sorento prototype out in the snow. The heavy camouflage prevents us from seeing all the details, but it definitely appears a round of rhinoplasty is in the cards. LED running lamps appear to be integrated into updated headlamp clusters, much like those used elsewhere in Kia's portfolio. Expect to see revised bumper fascias, foglights, trim, and maybe even a new rear hatch stamping and taillights.

It’s unclear what mechanical changes Kia will make, if any. The 2012 Kia Sorento is now offered with a new 2.4-liter, direct-injection four-cylinder engine rated 191 hp and 181 lb-ft; however, the current base engine is a non-DI 2.4-liter, inline-four (at 175 hp and 169 lb-ft), while a 3.5-liter, V-6 engine with 276 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque, sits atop the range.

How about a usable 3rd row for adults. It's possible, i've seen it done in a Pilot & Highlander. How about being able to get into the 3rd row from both the driver & passenger side. Fix the mickey mouse suspension once and for all.
