It may not get enthusiast pulses elevated as much as the Ford Mustang Boss 302 or Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, but it has generated a lot of interest nonetheless. Yes, it's the 2014 Chevrolet Impala. General Motors is predicting such strong demand for the new model, that it has announced a third shift at its Oshawa, Ontario production facility where the Impala is built.
In addition to the third shift on the Flexible manufacturing line, a previously-scheduled shift addition on the Consolidated line will be extended until June 2014. The St. Catherines Powertrain facility will also add a third shift to support production of six-speed automatic transmissions for the 2014 Impala, the only transmission option for Chevrolet's full-size sedan.
GM's widely-used 3.6-liter direct-injected V-6 is the only engine that carries over on the 2014 Impala. The two other engine options on the 2014 Impala are a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, and the 2.4-liter with eAssist. The formerly-available 303-hp 5.3-liter LS4 V-8 offered in the SS model has been dropped. There are no announced plans for a SS trim level on the 2014 Impala, likely because a dedicated, stand-alone SS model is coming in 2014, a revival of the late Pontiac G8's rear-drive Zeta platform, incorporating some of the updates the Holden Commodore sedan recently received.
