The Doctor is In: Mercedes-Benz Crafts Powerful C63 AMG DR520 for U.K.

When it comes to building high-performance Mercedes-Benz sedans, who says AMG and Brabus get to have all the fun? The Specialist Products Division -- part of Mercedes' U.K. wing -- decided to create an uber-Benz of its own: the 2010 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG DR520.

As it leaves AMG's hands, the C63 is already a mean machine. The normally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 cranks out a solid 451 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. European customers can also opt for the Performance Pack Plus, which tosses in the forged pistons, crankshaft, and connecting rods from the SLS AMG to boost power to 487 horsepower. The DR 520, as its name suggests, eclipses both those cars. The Specialist Division team managed to coax a whopping 520 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque from the eight-cylinder beast. The extra oomph is enough to blast a C63 DR520 sedan from 0-62 mph in 4.1 seconds, while a C63 DR520 estate wagon makes the same run in 4.2 seconds. Top speed has been electronically limited to 187 mph, although we're sure a tech wizard may be able to manipulate that threshold. Along with the forged engine internals, the DR520 also receives a number of features also included with the Performance Package Plus. Carbon-ceramic front disc brakes are standard, as are large 19-inch wheels -- although they're given a titanium finish, which also appears on the grille and a number of exterior trim pieces. The interior is bathed in Alcantara and capped with a pair of sport seats, which receive embroidered DR520 logos on their headrests. Want one? So long as you live in England, ordering a DR520 is easy enough -- simply select body style (sedan or wagon), color (matte white or matte black), and hope you've acted quickly enough to snag one of the 20 cars scheduled for assembly. Although a DR520 will run nearly $15,000 more than a normal C63, expect that allotment to be depleted shortly. Source: Daimler
