Teasing for Geneva: European Hyundai Sonata Wagon Images Released

You've seen the prototypes being tested around Europe and now we've finally got a better look at the Hyundai i40W. Also known as the Sonata wagon, the car is expected to debut at the Geneva show next year.

Later in 2011, Europeans will get the first chance to buy the i40W, which will be offered with a range of small gas and diesel engines. If the wagon heads to the U.S., don't expect it before 2012. In Europe, the i40W will compete against cars like the Honda Accord wagon on which the Acura TSX Sport Wagon is based, and the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer on which the Buick Regal is based.

The renderings show a vehicle with a front end that looks awfully similar to the 2011 Elantra sedan. The lower fascia of the two cars differs and the general proportions appear to be consistent with the Hyundai wagon we've spotted testing before. If the Sonata wagon does make it to the U.S., it will fill the spot vacated by the last-generation Mazda6 and outgoing Volkswagen Passat.

Hyundai currently offers the 2011 Elantra Touring wagon in the U.S. and a wagon variant of the next-generation 2012 model is set to follow. Can the U.S. market support another Hyundai wagon? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
