In anticipation of the new 2013 Lexus LS sedan's worldwide debut, the Japanese automaker has begun counting down the days until fans will be able to see the refreshed car in all its glory. Featured just below a new teaser image of the new LS' side view on Lexus' Facebook page, the countdown clock will give way to a live broadcast during the unveiling on July 30.
Not much is known about the new flagship sedan, but we expect the 2013 LS will be available in the same LS 460, long-wheelbase LS 460 L, and hybrid LS 600h L versions as the current car. Lexus has introduced F Sport variants for the GS and RX; we expect a new LS F Sport variant to get the same treatment as other F Sport models including a mesh spindle grille insert, black trim details, and sportier suspension tuning.
As for what's under the hood, the 2013 LS may use a tweaked version of the same 4.6-liter V-8 along with a revised hybrid model serving as Lexus’ flagship sedan. Power figures should increase and fuel economy numbers are expected to improve, as well. The 2012 Lexus LS 460 is EPA-rated at 16/23-24 mpg city/highway in rear- and all-wheel-drive forms while the LS 600h L V-8 hybrid gets 19/23 mpg.
Now that we've seen Lexus LS teaser images and a heavily camouflaged prototype, we're ready to see the real deal and how well it will compete with the refreshed BMW 7 Series and upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Let the countdown begin.
