What's better than staring at photos of the modern Lancia Stratos revival? Staring at a video of the new Stratos sports car wringing its way around a track, of course.
We've already drooled over the official photos of the new Stratos, but the group behind the project recently released footage of the retro-looking sports car undergoing testing at a road course in Germany. Project backer Michael Stoscheck also pops into frame to describe the program and the car's performance, but only does so in his native language: German.
No matter -- the soundtrack, provided by the Stratos itself, needs no translation. Power comes courtesy of a Ferrari 4.3-liter V-8, which isn't surprising, seeing as the car is built from a shortened F430 Scuderia chassis. Although the final technical specifications haven't been released, the Stratos team says the car has a 50:50 weight balance, along with a power-to-weight ratio of roughly 1 horsepower per 4.95 pounds. Assuming the Ferrari V-8 is in stock tune (i.e. 508 horsepower), the Stratos could potentially weigh in at roughly 2500 pounds.
We expect to see firm performance, production, and pricing numbers from Stoscheck's team in the months to come, but we're happy enough to see and hear the new Stratos ripping it up on the track.
