Suzuki SX4 Picked for U.S. Top Gear's Reasonably Priced Car

The advent of an American-ized version of the famed Top Gear is anything but a secret -- but until now, we hadn't heard what vehicle would be used for the stateside interpretation of the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" segment. According to a release from the manufacturer, celebrities will soon be ripping around a road course in nothing other than a 2011 Suzuki SX4.

The little SX4 will be used in what the U.S. Top Gear dubs the "Big Star in a Small Car" segment. Although celebrities may be fleeting, the SX4, at 162 inches long and 2732 pounds, the SX4, is certainly quite small. Ripping directly off the British original, the American version will challenge celebrities to compete for the fastest lap around a road course -- in this case, a 1.6-mile circuit at El Toro in California.

"We were thrilled when Top Gear contacted us about the opportunity to showcase the driving dynamics of the 2011 Suzuki SX4 SportBack," Gene Brown, VP of marketing and public relations at American Suzuki, said. "The SX4 SportBack has received rave reviews since its introduction last year, and we're confident our sporty little hatch will be a huge hit with Top Gear's ensemble of big name celebrity drivers -- as well as The Stig."

Well, that confirms it -- it seems an American Stig is certainly in the cards, although his/her identity remains a mystery. That isn't the case for those destined to thrash the SX4 around El Toro -- according to the History Channel, stars destined for the little car this year include Tim Allen, Kid Rock, Tony Hawk, Michelle Rodriguez, and Dominic Monaghan.

Predictably, The Stig was unavailable for comment as to which of the five celebrities was the fastest driver, which means we'll have to tune in and find out. Look for the U.S.-spec Top Gear to premiere on the History Channel in November.
