Super-Superleggera? Lamborghini Unveils New 2011 Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain

In case you're wondering, it's still not exactly legal (or practical) to use a Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo racer as a daily driver. A pity, but the new 2011 Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition may very well be the next best thing.

Named after the Swiss sponsor of the Super Trofeo series, the new LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition bears more than a familial resemblance to the actual vehicles used in Lamborghini's spec-race series. A number of modifications are designed to help strip weight from the already-lithe Gallardo. Additional carbon fibers, lightweight interior materials, and race-spec carbon-ceramic brakes all help bring the Gallardo's curb weight to 2954 pounds, roughly 200 pounds below a standard Gallardo.

Although those modifications improve the Gallardo's power-to-weight ratio, Lamborghini further sweetened the mixture by adding a little power underhood. True to its name, the LP 570-4 Blancpain's 5.2-liter V-10 cranks out a solid 570 horsepower (roughly 10 ponies more than a standard Gallardo) and a solid 398-pound-feet of torque. The additional power and reduced weight allow the car to sprint from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds, and reach a top speed just over the 200 mph mark.

If all this sounds vaguely familiar, it should -- this is the exact same recipe used to concoct the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, which sports the same weight, power, and performance metrics. The Blancpain model, however, has a completely different look. Each example is painted in a matte black hue, accented with special Blancpain logos. Carbon fiber accents, primarily on the bespoke rear wing and slotted engine cover, also help dress up the Blancpain model, as do the black 20-inch aluminum wheels cribbed from the Balboni edition.

Like the Superleggera, the Blancpain's cabin is swathed in Alcantara, although it receives contrasting gold stitching to help match the exterior logos. Gold Blancpain logos are also applied to the instrument panel and door panels, while carbon fiber accents on both the steering wheel and center console further tie the cabin's aesthetic to the exterior design.

Lamborghini hasn't indicated where and when the Gallardo LP-570 Blancpain Edition will have its first official unveiling (we're betting it could show up in Paris), although the car is officially on sale. In fact, the first example was reportedly delivered this past weekend at the last Super Trofeo race in Vallelunga, Italy.
