2013 Subaru BRZ Takes On Slalom
Before thoughtlessly making modifications to a car, the first change a driver should consider is swapping the stock tires. In this episode of Wide Open Throttle, host Jessi Lang heads to Tire Rack’s massive facility in Indiana to find out just how much tires affect a vehicle's performance. For her tire-testing guinea pig, Lang chooses the 2013 Subaru BRZ.
At the Tire Rack test track, Lang takes the 200-hp BRZ out for a spin and gets familiar with how it performs wearing its stock 17-inch summer tires. Once she's gotten acquainted with how the tires behave, she says it's time to up her game. Lang swaps the OEM 17-inch wheels for 18-inch units, but before she can take to the track again, she talks with some of the experts at Tire Rack to further understand the variables that impact a tire's performance. Lang looks at the differences between summer tires, dedicated winter tires, and all-season tires, and then chooses a new set for the BRZ.
Once the new tires are mounted and ready to go, Lang takes a few more laps in the Subaru. But how much better does the BRZ handle with the new tires? Watch the video below to find out.
