Add another accolade to the 2013 Ford Fusion's trophy cabinet – the sedan is now not just one of the most stylish in its class, but is also one of the safest thanks to being rated a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The 2013 Fusion joins eight other Ford models as an IIHS Top Safety Pick – all of the brand's sedans and hatchbacks (Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, and Taurus) continue to be Top Picks, as are all of the blue oval's crossovers (Escape, Edge, Explorer, and Flex), and the crew-cab F-150 pickup. The Fusion gained the honor of Top Safety Pick thanks to a "good" rating in the IIHS' moderate overlap frontal, side, rollover and rear impact crash tests.
The 2013 Fusion is not alone in the midsize segment as a Top Safety Pick. Competitors from Hyundai (the Sonata), Kia (the Optima), Subaru (the Legacy), Toyota (the Camry), Volkswagen (the Passat), and Chevrolet (the Malibu) have all earned the same rating. The new 2013 Honda Accord hasn't yet been tested and rated by the IIHS, but the 2012 Accord was previously rated a Top Safety Pick.
The 2013 Fusion is equipped with dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags, dual front knee airbags, and side curtain airbags, as well as stability control and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available safety technology includes a blind spot monitoring system with cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Prices for the 2013 Ford Fusion start at $22,495, including destination.
