Stile Bertone Considers Producing Alfa Romeo BAT 11 Concept

Bertone Alfa Romeo B.a.t. 11

Although the swoopy Alfa Romeo B.A.T. 11 coupe was conceived solely as a concept, those responsible for the car at Stile Bertone are considering producing it.

During a sneak peek before the B.A.T. 11's North American unveiling at the 2008 Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance, Roland Martin, Stile Bertone's marketing and business development director, expressed his interest in building a small number of B.A.T.s for customers.

"It's a new idea that I recently brought to the company," said Martin, "but it's certainly something I'd like to see happen."

Martin would be happy to see the design firm build any low-volume sports car, but feels the positive reaction to the B.A.T. 11, originally unveiled outside the 2008 Geneva motor show, may be a leading candidate.

Though the B.A.T. 11 is a non-running model, it was designed around the chassis and running gear of the 2009 Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, itself limited to 100 examples.; If production is approved, the B.A.T. or a similar vehicle would be built by Stile Bertone, not the beleaguered Carrozerria Bertone.

"The car would have nothing to do with Carrozerria Bertone," said Martin.; "They're set up to build thousands of cars, mostly for high-volume segments.; We'd build our cars within our own shops [in Turin, Italy]."

Martin says no more than 25 or 50 examples of would be produced, going mostly to customers in Russia, China, the Middle East, and North America.; If customer interest is substantial, Martin thinks a production vehicle could be launched in less than two years time.
