Contrary to its name, if you’re the least bit enamored by Dodge’s retro muscle car, there’s a good chance that the new Fastlane Stealth Dodge Challenger will show up on your radar.
We’re not exactly certain how the Stealth moniker was chosen for this ride, but like the F-117A figher jet of the same name, this Challenger is big, brawny, and totally badass. Fastlane adds a custom wide-body kit with rear fender flares patterned after the so-called billboard graphics used on early Mopar E-body cars.
The tuning shop also dropped the car, with a new suspension with coil-over shocks. According to the firm, the suspension tuning transforms the Challenger’s handling from that of “a fat guy running in socks on a newly waxed floor” to a competent track performer.
“I’ve always thought of the Challenger as the muscle car that could use extra modification for better handling,” says Nick Field, owner of Fastlane. “Our Stealth package does just that and adds a significant amount of power as well.”
On that note, Fastelane starts with the stock 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 found in the Challenger SRT8, but adds some heavy-duty upgrades. The stock crankshaft is replaced with a forged unit, and some Comp Cam camshafts are added as well. Those internals help provide a solid foundation for a supercharger sourced from Kenne Bell. Along with American Racing headers and a cat-back exhaust system sourced from Magnaflow, these upgrades allow the Hemi to throw down a whopping 630 horsepower at the rear wheels.
That’s a lot of power to throw down, but an upgraded rear axle and some substantial rolling stock helps the Stealth Challenger make the most of its newfound power. The 20-inch wheels are nearly 11 inches wide in front, but are 12.5-inches wide out back. The significant negative camber looks somewhat ungainly, but Fastlane says it helps improve cornering with the giant rims.
Customers can currently order their own Stealth Challenger from Fastlane. Pricing for the car has yet to be officially announced, but the tuning shop does back its work with a 12-month/12,000-mile limited warranty.
