The Spyker marque may not be as familiar to supercar enthusiasts as, say, Lamborghini, but it doesn’t mean the cars it produces aren’t any less incredible. The Dutch company’s latest creation--the C8 Aileron Spyder--was unveiled in Monterey, California, this past weekend.
Although it replaces the fixed roof with a folding top, the C8 Aileron Spyder shares most of its components with the standard C8 Aileron coupe. As a result, you’ll find a 4.2-liter, 400-hp Audi V-8 in back, coupled with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Spyker claims this powertrain is enough to blast it from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
While those figures won’t win the supercar wars, much of the C8 Aileron Spyder’s appeal is in its exquisite nature. The exterior of the Aileron coupe is extremely polarizing, and the convertible is no less so. Designers added the company’s Latin mantra to the tonneau cover, and also offers wing-shaped external luggage as an option. The interior is just as captivating, as it’s trimmed in vast quantities of quilted leather and engine-turned aluminum accents.
Spkyer hasn’t released pricing for the C8 Aileron Spyder just yet, but rest assured, the price tag won’t be cheap. That won’t hurt sales, though--a company representative described the car as an “and” car, meaning clientele will likely buy an Aston Martin and a Spyker without debating between the two…
