Spotted: 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Shows Hints of Veloster

We recently spotted a modestly covered up 2013 Genesis Coupe out for testing, but a Gen Coupe forum member was able to snap a few shots of  what could be the future model as it sat parked au naturel. Interestingly, the finished product appears to incorporate quite a few cues from other Hyundais, notably the new 2012 Veloster coupe.

While the Genesis coupe is supposed to be part of Hyundai’s upscale and more unique models, it seems as though it was styled to resemble some of Hyundai's smaller models.  Though some see hints of Elantra and perhaps even Accent in the new fascia, the overall design reminds us quite a bit of that used on the Veloster -- and seeing as that model is also trying to serve as a (smaller) sporty coupe, we're not too shocked to see Hyundai's giving both cars some common design DNA.

The new grille is considerably wider, while LED light pipes accent the lower edges of the headline. This prototype's hood sports air vents, though we doubt a V-8 option is packed underhood. Much as we'd love the Genesis R-Spec's 5.0-liter unit to appear in the coupe, the current GenCoupe's turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 and 3.8-liter V-6 offerings are expected to port over, albeit possibly with direct fuel injection.

The biggest change to the rear appears to be the taillights, in which the LEDs form a different shape compared to the current model’s lights. Most other details appear to be carryover from the current model. Expect more information to emerge over the next few months, as the facelifted Genesis Coupe is expected to publicly debut early next year, perhaps even at the 2012 Detroit auto show in January.

Jesus, Just When I Was Starting To Think Hyundai Had It Together They F*ck It Up Like This....

I Think I'm Gonna Puke...
Note to Hyundai designers of 2013 Gen Coupe: Take your design cues from Rhys Millen. You have utterly failed on this one. I was waiting for the 2013 to purchase, but there is no way I am buying this ugly piece of crap.
Oh no... I'm really sadden by this new look the Genesis coupe has. The front doesn't fit the sports car persona. What a shame. Luckily there's the Scion FR-S.
I think it looks good for a regular coupe, but it lost that sports car, hunkered down look. It should look more like the corvette and less like the Infiniti FX. And putting a cooperate grill on a supposedly premium car puts it in the same league as their budget car, the Elantra.

What a disappointment! Headlights are fine, but what an overworked gapping mouth. It looked cleaner and more modern before.
Well, that's too bad. Hyundai is starting to make too many cars that look identical, with identical mechanicals. The Veloster is just a re-skinned Accent, and the planned turbo Veloster will essentially be the same as a Genesis Coupe 2.0T.
