Spied Yet Again: Next-Gen 2011 Ford Explorer Testing in Michigan

#Ford, #Ford

Ford's still teasing us with little preview images of the all-new 2011 Ford Explorer, but we keep running into the new crossover well in advance of its official debut.

We recently captured a video of a 2011 Explorer driving in southeastern Michigan, but some friends of the magazine happened across another test vehicle stopping for gas in the western portion of the Great Lakes state. Although these two may be completely different vehicles, both wear nearly identical camouflage. Thankfully, the disguise -- which is designed to fool viewers from some distance -- doesn't obscure details when viewed up close.

We can't confirm any specifics about this particular vehicle, but we know Ford plans on offering at least two different engines in the new unibody Explorer. Ford has confirmed its new turbocharged, direct injection 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 will make an appearance, although we've only heard rumors suggesting a pair of V-6 engines -- perhaps the company's new 3.7-liter V-6, or its twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost six-cylinder -- may also be offered.

We'll likely learn more about the new Explorer in a few weeks, as Ford reportedly has a grand extravaganza planned in New York City for the model's official launch. Stay with Automobile Magazine for all the latest news and information surrounding the 2011 Ford Explorer.
