It’ll be some time before we see BMW unveil a new 6-Series coupe, but the folks at Motor Trend managed to acquire some fairly revealing spy photos of the next-gen two-door.
The wild camouflage pattern obscures many of the car’s details (like, for instance, the traditional “Hoffmeister Kink”), but the prototype does give us a good look at the new car. It seems lower and wider than the current car, emphasized by a longer roofline with thicker B-pillars and longer windows.
The new 6 will receive revised front and rear fascias, and as a result, items like the headlamps, grille, taillights, and decklid will be all-new designs. From what we can tell, designers have toned down the wild rump found on the current car.
BMW will offer the new 6-Series in both coupe and convertible forms, but Motor Trend suggests a third body style -- a five-door fastback Gran Turismo -- is also in the works. Although it could potentially conflict with the company’s new 5-Series Gran Turismo, sources suggest the car could compete head-to-head with Audi’s forthcoming A7.
