The industrial spies employed by Motor Trend suggest the car you see here is the next-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK AMG. If that's the case, there's a bigger question -- what's underneath the hood?
MT's photographer claims the prototype emitted exhaust tones befitting a beefy, muscular V-8 engine. Interesting, but that also flies in the face of earlier rumors that suggested AMG may utilize a twin-turbocharged or supercharged V-6 for the high-performance compact roadster. Regardless of the power source, expect the SLK AMG to deliver plenty of power -- perhaps besting the 360 horsepower produced by the 2010 SLK AMG's 5.4-liter V-8 -- while improving its fuel economy and emissions figures. Benz designers seem all too keen to work SLS AMG cues into the new SLK, but we'd expect the familiar resemblance to be heightened on the AMG models. Expect LED daytime running lamps, larger wheels, flared fenders, and quad exhaust tips to help set this SLK apart from its lesser siblings. Source: Motor Trend
