Spied: Audi S3 Convertible Out Cold-Weather Testing

Audi S3 Convertible Prototype Right View
Shortly after the U.S.-bound Audi A3 sedan was spied playing in the snow last week, spy photographers have caught another family member winter testing. Covered in camouflage, the go-fast S3 convertible prototype keeps its top up.
Quad exhaust tips and air vents on the sides of the front bumper indicate it may be an S3, which could pack the same heat as the 296-hp Euro-spec S3 hatchback. Based off the A3 sedan, the convertible looks like a shrunken A5 convertible, and that's not a bad thing. But it's not all good for us, at least: we don’t expect the S3 convertible to ever touch U.S. soil.
We can keep dreaming about an A3 or S3 convertible, but in the meantime, we can look forward to the A3 sedan, which will be the first Audi model we'll see using the MQB platform. The stylish sedan may arrive in 2014 as a 2015 model, and high performance variants, with an S model to follow. The A3 should receive 2.0-liter gas and diesel engines, per Audi’s current A3 offerings in the U.S., mated to dual clutch and manual transmissions. Front- and all-wheel-drive will be offered, though specific powertrain combos have yet to be revealed. There is a plug-in hybrid in the works, but like the convertible, there's no word on whether it will reach our shores.
Should the Audi A3 or S3 come to the U.S. market in convertible form? Speak your mind in the comments below.
