Motor Trend’s spy photographer has captured the facelifted Mercedes-Benz G-Class testing once again, and this time it looks like one of the test mules might be packing V-12 power. Though the bodywork doesn’t look much different since we last saw the G-Wagen testing in October, we could in fact be looking at a prototype of a future G65 AMG. The updated grille, revised side mirrors, and new front bumper that we saw on the last G55 test mule can be seen on these testers as well, but what particularly stands out are the openings in the front bumper, which could feed intercoolers for a turbocharger system. One of the test mules has a single opening, while the other has two. Motor Trend speculates that the one with the single opening is the G55, which likely packs Mercedes’ 5.4-liter twin-turbo V-8, producing around 525 hp. That could mean the other one boasts the 6.0-liter V-12 Biturbo out of the S65 AMG, an engine good for around 612 hp. If so, that would be a first for AMG, although other tuners -- notably Brabus -- have previously shoehorned twelve-cylinder enignes into G-Wagens. The brakes on that development mule are another indication that it’s the more souped-up of the two, as they appear larger than the other SUV’s. If this is a G65, it’s likely to be a limited-production vehicle, with a low run of a 200 units at 250,000 euros (roughly $326,850) each. Mercedes is tight-lipped on the matter though, and has yet to publicly confirm the existence of either vehicle. Head over to Motor Trend to see the full gallery of photos. Source: Motor Trend
