Spied Again: 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Gains Veloster-Like Nose

We saw it wearing bulky camouflage, we saw it in a blurry cameraphone photo, and now we have our clearest look yet at the 2013 Hyundai Genesis. Hyundai-Blog says that this photo shows a redesign for the Genesis coupe that may debut as early as 2013.

As we saw before, the coupe’s snout has been totally revamped with a design that looks cribbed from that of the new Hyundai Veloster. There’s a big grille opening, large swept-back headlights, and even some hood vents. The overall effect is somewhat like plopping the front of a Nissan GT-R onto a Genesis coupe. Based on these photos, the facelift is neither as subtle and attractive as the current Genesis coupe, nor as edgy and aggressive as the Veloster.

The styling decision does make sense, however, as it gives a common DNA to both of Hyundai’s compact “sporty coupes”, including the Genesis coupe and Veloster. Beneath the new design, we expect the Genesis’ 210-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and 306-hp 3.8-liter V-6 engines to continue, although they may gain direct fuel injection as part of the refresh.

Look for the new Hyundai Genesis coupe to make its public debut early next year, possibly as soon as the 2012 Detroit auto show in January.

I agree with you AHyundaiFAN. When I saw the Sonata, and the new Azera, I became more interested in Hyundai. With the 2012 Genesis coupe, I didn't like the simple "cartoony" front face, so I was hoping for an improved refresh with the 2013.. I too am disappointed. I would prefer if Hyundai stuck with the front styling similar to the Sonata, the new Azera or Genesis Sedan. Since I won't be buying a car anytime soon, I'll continue to look around at the Mustang, FR-S, or the BRZ. Hopefully by the time I do purchase a car, Hyundai will listen to their fans and give the Genesis coupe a re-refresh.
I was waiting for the 2012 Genesis Coupe on all the rumors of the updated 333 HP V6. I was hoping for a slight refresh of the front end the only part of the car that needed some polish to make it one of the cleanest coupes on the market. Then we learn no changes or refresh for 2012 but great news, a totally new coupe in January. Now we see it and Hyundai has totally blown it for the first time in years. The coupe is for mature males who want some performance and pizzazz but can take the neighbors to dinner, not a boy racer. The photos are grotesque. If this is the new coupe they have missed the mark and their target buyer completely. This is boy racer stuff but the Mustang and Camaro are way better looking which I could not say before. I am going to buy a Z which now blows the Genesis Coupe away.
