Spied! 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Interior Boasts Wild Center Stack

2014 Chevrolet Silverado Center Stack
With the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado due to make its debut at the beginning of next year, the truck keeps being spotted as it undergoes final testing. Today, we have a clear, undisguised shot of the all-new interior – and boy, it appears that Chevy loves the “squircle.”
Although the exterior of the 2014 Silverado may present more of a cautious evolution from the current model, the interior is throwing out everything found in the present 2012 model in favor of a more stylish and ergonomic design. The most notable revision is the rounded-square-shaped center stack for the infotainment and climate controls. The model spotted here doesn't seem to be equipped with a navigation system, but instead with an audio system equipped a smaller screen and physical control buttons. We can only assume that a version of Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system with its large color touchscreen will also be available on the new Silverado.
Climate controls use large buttons flanked by oversized knobs with LED indications, clearly a nod to users who may wear work gloves while using this truck. At the bottom of the stack is a row of auxiliary buttons – looking somewhere between a cross of the toggles found in the Ford Super Duty and the tabs used in a Smart ForTwo – that reveals the plethora of new technology the Silverado will get. We can see that there will definitely be lane-keep assist, parking sensors, power adjustable pedals, but other buttons aren’t quite discernable at this point. Expect further tech goodies to be announced in the near future.
On the driver's side, there is a new steering wheel that looks to use the same controls as found in the 2014 Impala, and a new set of Indiglo-green and red dials. Passengers are treated to dual, oversized gloveboxes There is also a huge center console that we expect will be able to swallow a laptop or two, and three large cupholders.
The 2014 Silverado models our spy shooter nabbed also boast a different grille treatment than we've previously seen on prototypes. In addition to the plain, straight-slat insert we’ve previously seen, one of these testers uses a honeycomb-style weave. Not much more is known about the next Chevrolet Silverado – or its GMC Sierra twin, for that matter – although we do know that General Motors has begun retooling two of its plants in Mexico to begin production of the Silverado early next year. Also, expect the new full-size trucks to launch with GM's next-generation small-block V-8 with direct fuel injection, and to use aluminum, magnesium, and other weight-saving materials to shed weight and improve fuel economy.
