Spied: 2013 Ford F-150 Arrives With Redesigned Grilles for FX4, XLT, and Lariat Models

These new spy photos reveal that the Ford F-150 pickup family will soon receive new grille designs. The F-150 FX4 and XLT trims receive grilles that resemble those of the larger Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks, while the Lariat model gets a restyled three-bar grille.

As these spy photos show, the 2013 F-150 FX4 and XLT wear a grille with two horizontal bars, surrounded by bracket shapes at either end. That contrasts with the multiple-bar grille design seen on most versions of the 2012 Ford F-150. The highly optioned F-150 Lariat gets a different front end treatment, with a three-bar design that now spans the width of the grille. The FX4 trim level already was slightly revised for 2012; last summer it gained a black-tinted grille insert, headlights, taillights, and emblems.

It doesn't appear that the Ford F-150 will receive any other exterior visual tweaks for 2013. The Ford trucks will adopt the company's MyFord Touch infotainment system when they go on sale this fall; the system was first rolled out in the F-Series Super Duty models earlier this year. We don't expect the powertrain lineup to change, so buyers will continue to pick from a 302-hp, 3.7-liter V-6; a 360-hp, 5.0-liter V-8; a 411-hp, 6.2-liter V-8; and a 365-hp, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6. The number of trucks equipped with the V-6 engine choices will probably continue to grow, as Ford recently added a third shift at its factory to meet demand for those efficient mills.

This is probably the last refresh for this generation of the Ford F-150, which will likely be fully redesigned in the next two or three years. Expect Ford to officially announce the updates to the 2013 F-150 later this summer.

Any idea of the new colors for the F150 for 2013? I plan on purchasing one this next year as I am not too fond of 2012 colors. I wanted the Gem Green but when I saw it it looked too black too me not green. Thanks for all the great info.
