Since Bentley entered the Chinese market in 2002, the English company’s sales have grown tenfold, and China is now Bentley’s third-largest market in the world. In order to recognize its Chinese customers, Bentley is launching two Continental models exclusively for China.
“Bentley has a long and proud tradition of creating exclusive cars designed to meet the styling and driving tastes of our customers, wherever in the world they might be,” said Geoff Dowding, Bentley regional director for Asia and the Middle East. “Designed and offered exclusively for our customers in China, these special-edition Bentleys showcase our styling and engineering teams’ abilities and also underlines our desire to create cars for this influential market.”
The first of these special edition models is the Continental GT Design Series China, which features a unique three-tone leather interior and several unique exterior colors. The three-tone interior features one main color with a second contrasting leather color and a third contrasting stitching and accent color. The combination of three different colors sounds a bit busy, but actually creates quite a striking interior -- so long as the buyer shows some restraint in color combinations. It’s worth noting both orange and magenta stitching have been added to the color palette.
The three-tone leather interior is complemented by a choice of three different wood veneers: piano black, dark-stained Burr Walnut, and Amboyna, which is usually a cost option but has been made available to Continental GT Design Series China buyers. In addition to being added as contrasting stitching colors, both orange and magenta are optional exterior paint colors. New “Design Series China” badging on the door sills round out the changes for the Continental GT Design Series China.
Bentley’s second special-edition model for the Chinese market is the Continental Flying Spur Speed China. Although the Continental Flying Spur Speed was developed to be a high performance sedan, Bentley has re-tuned the Continental Speed for greater comfort as the Speed China. A bespoke “comfort” suspension setting was added to the Speed China, allowing buyers to sail along at speed with a smoother ride. Bentley also mellowed out the Speed China’s exhaust so it is less intrusive. Special Speed China door sills, front, rear, and interior badges, along with Bentley’s famous B badges affixed to the C-pillars, complete the changes to the Continental Flying Spur Speed China.
Both the Bentley Continental GT Design Series China and Continental Flying Spur Speed China debut tomorrow at the Beijing auto show. Bentley has not said when the models will go on sale.
