Snap Judgment: Should Chevy Offer a Cruze SS?

Earlier today, we reported that General Motors' internal skunkworks division Down Under, Holden Special Vehicles, might be working on a performance version of the Chevrolet Cruze sedan. Although neither the vehicle nor its chance of making it to the United States has been confirmed, consider us interested.

To make the case for a Cruze SS, HSV would have to produce a contender that could go up against the existing Volkswagen GTI, Honda Civic Si, and upcoming 2012 Ford Focus ST. We're pretty sure, though, that HSV won't try to stuff a V-8 in the engine bay -- more likely a variant of the Cruze's four-cylinder engine, perhaps turbocharged.

But would a Cruze SS sedan be able to stand up to its competition? If produced, will the SS trim grace both sedan and hatchback, or will the not-yet-confirmed-for-us hatchback be the sole recipient?

Today's Snap Judgment:
