Some vehicles have a more loyal fan base than others, but Smart may have some of the most dedicated followers. For the tenth year running, the Smart Times gathering will celebrate 10 years of meetings in Austria.
"We look forward to thousands of Smart fans and a varied program with a very special highlight, an opportunity to test drive the Smart Fortwo electric drive," Marc Langenbrinck, Smart managing director, said in a press release.
From August 20-22, thousands of Smart fans from across Europe will descend upon an airfield in Kaprun, Austria, near the city of Salzburg, to celebrate their love of the ultra-compact microcars. Two days prior to the event, owners will be invited to participate in additional activities, including a meet and greet. Drivers from German tuning firm Brabus will be on site to instruct owners during "power drives."
The real party starts once the event kicks off. On Friday, all participants will be invited to take part in a drive to the peak of the Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain. In addition, there will be several shows, competitions, and a display of innovations. On the second day, owners will have the opportunity to take part in a drive around the local lake. In past years, the group claims to have set the Guinness World Record for longest car convoy at the gathering, according to Smart. Stunt shows and a party at the Kaprun Castle will take place later in the day. The final day of the jamboree will be reserved for buying and selling Smart-related merchandise.
Smart Times is just one of 2010's many summer car club gatherings, including the second round of Chicago's Petite Concours in mid-July. Which event are you most looking forward to?
