Shelby's New Supercharger Kit For 2007-2012 GT500 Can Add 300 HP

A new supercharger kit for 2007-2012 Shelby GT500 models has been announced by Shelby Performance Parts. Designed to replace the stock roots-type supercharger of the 5.4-liter V-8, the Shelby/Whipple 3.4L Black Supercharger Tuner Kit can increase output by as much as 300 horsepower and, according to Shelby, is the largest twin-screw system available for that engine. To help deal with all that extra heat, Shelby is also offering its new Competition Heat Exchanger and Shelby GT500 Competition Intercooler.

The supercharger kit is a direct bolt-on system that Shelby says provides significantly higher boost levels at any given rpm than the stock blower. In addition to facilitating higher boost, the kit lowers discharge temperatures and parasitic loss. A 3.5-inch pulley comes standard, and allows for roughly 17 psi of boost when properly tuned.

Helping to keep the intake charge cool is the available Competition Heat Exchanger, which features dual 11-inch fans that pull the maximum amount of air across its core. Shelby says its new heat exchanger was designed to handle the higher heat produced by the bigger supercharger, which helps free up horsepower at its limits. Further cooling is available through the Competition Intercooler Tank, which can be filled with ice or dry ice to reduce intake temperatures as well as the risk of heat soak.
