The Infiniti FX50 S designed by two-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel will be both exclusive – at just 200 units slated for production – and pricy, as Autocar reports the special edition model will cost over 120,000 euros (roughly $155,600) when it goes on sale.
As we previously reported, the special edition FX won’t be coming to the U.S., with Infiniti instead targeting Europe and the Middle East and Autocar says that only 50 of the planned 200 units will be offered in Europe. Infiniti has received nine confirmed orders from European customers thus far, including one from Vettel himself, who will take delivery of the first vehicle to come off the assembly line.
The Vettel FX50S is powered by a 5.0-liter V-8 massaged to produce 414 hp instead of the usual 390 hp. This is achieved through a new intake and exhaust systemplus a retuned ECU. The upper gears of the seven-speed automatic transmission have been made taller, helping the SUV reach its claimed top speed of 186 mph. Vettel’s team Red Bull Racing helped design the vehicle’s carbon fiber front splitter and roof spoiler, which Infiniti says are functional. Autocar reports Vettel also helped tune the FX’s chassis to his own sporty tastes.
While a quick, ultra-limited SUV designed by an F1 star sounds like just our cup of tea, its price tag of more than $155,000 sounds a bit steep for us.
