Red Bull’s Italian Formula 1 team, Scuderia Toro Rosso, announced earlier today that Sebastian Bourdais would stay on as a driver to compete in the 2009 Formula 1 season.
Sebastian Bourdais is a 29-year old Frenchman who made his Formula 1 debut last season. Bourdais’s finished two races in seventh last year earning him 17th in the points standings. He and team principal, Franz Tost, are hopeful to improve for the 2009 season.
“We are pleased that Sebastian will be with us again for another season. After one year with Toro Rosso, we expect him to profit from the experience he gained last season. He now knows the F1 environment, the racetracks and the team. In addition, the slick tires, which make a comeback this year, should suit his driving style very well,” commented Tost.
After securing his position at Scuderia Toro Rosso, Bourdais said “It has been a very long and difficult winter, but now the waiting is finally over and I am really excited about tackling my second season with Scuderia Toro Rosso. I would like to thank Red Bull and Dietrich Mateschitz for this opportunity to continue with a team that made so much progress last year. Now I can focus on preparing for the coming season. It promises to be an interesting one with all the rule changes.”
Sebastian Bourdais is “also looking forward to establishing a good relationship” with his rookie teammate Sebastian Buemi, who made his way up through the ranks of the Red Bull Junior Driver program. Buemi replaces Sebastian Vettel, who joins Red Bull racing for the 2009 season.
