Last month, SoundMan Car Audio of Santa Clarita, California, installed an iPad into a Toyota Tacoma. Today, we have learned that aftermarket outfitter Scosche is putting the finishing touches on its own universal iPad in-car mount kit. The final product will be suitably named the iKit.
The iKit, which uses a Subaru WRX STI as its test vehicle, consists of a double-din brain-chassis unit with three simple attachments: a ball-joint connector, an audio-in port, and a USB slot for power. Scosche supplies the requisite 30-pin iPad connector and the iKit chassis replaces the factory or aftermarket two-slot head unit. Mounted to the ball joint is a custom iPad holder which, thanks to the joint connector, can be tilted in any direction and oriented in horizontal, vertical, or diagonal fashions.
The iKit isn’t listed on Scosche’s Web site yet but we can expect to hear more iPad-related updates from them soon as more Apple fans get their hands on the hot device. For now, take a look at the YouTube video demonstrating the Scosche iKit and iPad in action.
Now all Scosche needs is a single-din iPad mounting application…
